The institutional groundwork for this issue stretches back to June 2009, when The Jim Henson Company and Archaia signed a multi-year partnership to produce comics drawing from the Henson film and television library, with Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, MirrorMask, and The StoryTeller named as initial targets. Archaia was subsequently acquired by BOOM! Studios in June 2013, carrying those Henson licenses with it and operating thereafter as a distinct imprint — the same imprint credit that appears on Jim Henson Presents #1. The idea of folding all those properties into a single recurring anthology rather than separate miniseries appears to have crystallized around 2024, with the first issue solicited in BOOM!'s December 2024 catalog; a second printing with new cover art by Danny Luckert was rushed to shelves on February 12, 2025, less than five weeks after the debut.
