Three kids have claimed a cardboard box as their pirate ship, hoisting a wonderfully oversized Jolly Roger that towers above them against a cheerful blue sky — pure backyard imagination at its most charming. A small orange cat watches from the grass as the crew — one sporting a skull-emblazoned helmet, another in a green cap, and their flag-bearer in full pirate mode — set sail on their make-believe adventure. Mickaël Roux's Jeu de Gamins: Les Pirates, published by Bamboo Édition in 2012, looks like an absolute delight for anyone who's ever turned an empty box into something magnificent.
