About this Issue

Jeff the Land Shark #5 is the concluding chapter of Jeff's first-ever starring print miniseries — a genuine landmark in the character's publishing history, marking the transition of a digital-native, dialogue-free Infinity Comic sensation into a full narrative arc with rising stakes and a proper resolution. The five-issue run earned a 2026 Eisner Award nomination for Best Humor Publication, validating the book's creative ambition beyond the gag-strip format that originally made Jeff famous. As the finale, issue #5 closes the Shadow-Jeff storyline that drove the entire miniseries, assembling an unusually large ensemble — Gwenpool, Elsa Bloodstone, Scarlet Witch, Magik, Rogue, and Doctor Voodoo — around a character whose appeal had previously relied on near-wordless solo vignettes, demonstrating that Jeff could anchor sustained, plot-driven storytelling. The series itself was the direct product of Jeff's crossover popularity in the video game Marvel Rivals, making this finale a capstone moment for a character whose rise from a background West Coast Avengers joke to Eisner-nominated headliner is one of the more unusual success stories in recent Marvel history.

History

The Jeff the Land Shark miniseries was announced at ComicsPro in February 2025 and framed explicitly as a response to the character's viral success in the Marvel Rivals video game, which launched in December 2024. Writer Kelly Thompson — Jeff's co-creator and the architect of every major Jeff comic to date — publicly noted that the format shift from Infinity Comic to miniseries was an opportunity to tell 'more complex' stories than the joke-per-issue structure of It's Jeff! allowed. Artist Tokitokoro, who illustrated all five issues, was paired with Gurihiru (who handled covers for the main series), maintaining visual continuity with the aesthetic audiences had come to associate with the character while introducing a distinct interior sensibility. Editor Jordan White shepherded the book under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, and the series shipped from June through October 2025, with issue #5 released on October 22, 2025.
