History

Dynamite announced the series on October 10, 2023, framing it as a deliberate anniversary celebration: 2024 would begin the publisher's tenth year holding the Bond comics license from Ian Fleming Publications, while 2023 had already marked the character's 70th anniversary as a literary creation. Ennis was paired with artist Rapha Lobosco, a natural choice given Lobosco's existing familiarity with the property from his work on Benjamin Percy's 'Black Box' arc and a chapter of Aleš Kot's 'The Body.' Covers for the run were handled by Eisner Award-winning illustrator Dave Johnson. Ennis himself described his approach as a return to the Fleming novels, seeing in the literary Bond a considerably darker figure than the film versions had portrayed.
