Jack Kirby's Fourth World #9

John Byrne's 1997 continuation of Jack Kirby's Fourth World mythology turns up the heat with issue #9, whose Walter Simonson cover thrusts a red-and-blue-gauntleted warrior — Orion — into a brutal mid-air clash above the snarling, wide-jawed face of a massive foe, debris and fire erupting all around them. The bold cover tag "Brother's Slayer!" promises that the ties of family run dangerously close to the edge in "Sons of the Father." As a bonus, the issue also includes a Tales of the New Gods backup by Walter Simonson, making this a particularly packed visit to the cosmos Kirby built.
