J2 — "The Son of the Original Juggernaut!" — squares off against a genuinely unexpected villain on this Ron Lim and Al Milgrom cover: Big Julie, the Gangster Gorilla, a cigar-chomping, military-beret-wearing ape who has J2 firmly in his grip and a weapon shoved right in the hero's face. The cover even breaks the fourth wall with a sly speech bubble pleading with readers to buy the issue, while Big Julie sneers that a talking ape would never make it into Spider-Girl — pure 1999 Marvel Universe charm. Tom DeFalco's J2 was never afraid to have fun, and this issue looks like a prime example of that gleefully offbeat spirit.
