“Irredeemable [Chapter 1]”

In "Irredeemable [Chapter 1]," Mark Waid and Peter Krause launch a chilling tale of cosmic horror and fractured heroism, beginning with the sudden, brutal destruction of The Hornet and his family by the enigmatic Plutonian. One week later, the remnants of The Paradigm—now fractured and desperate—revisit the memory of Tony and Samsara’s fateful meeting as they race to uncover the truth behind their fallen teammate’s descent, only to find the Plutonian arriving with unsettling calm as they flee. The cover by John Cassaday captures the moment’s dread with stark, haunting precision.

A masked man called The Hornet is vaporized along with his wife and children by The Plutonian. One week later the happy meeting of "Tony" and Samsara, who would become crimefighting partners, is recalled when the members of The Paradigm desperately try to glean information that would let them stop their former teammate's rampage. As the heroes resolve to split up and track down leads on Plutonian's private life, he arrives, strangely satisfied when they escape.
