“Whiplash Returns!”

In "Whiplash Returns!", Tony Stark faces a double threat as the vengeful Whiplash strikes both his company and his personal life—plotting sabotage at Stark Industries in Cincinnati while trying to climb the corporate ladder, even demoting his fiancée Vicki to kitchen duty in front of Tony and Pepper. When Whiplash steals Tony’s latest Micro-Power Cell, Iron Man must fight back, only to be outmaneuvered as his weapons are systematically destroyed. With clever use of his Magnetic Disks, Iron Man turns the tide, but Whiplash escapes with one final trick. The story unfolds with Mike Friedrich’s sharp writing and Craig Russell’s dynamic art, while Gil Kane’s cover captures the intensity of the showdown.

Whiplash is plotting revenge, laying in wait in Cincinnati, but he's also trying to climb the Stark Industries corporate ladder, and insensitively relegates his fiance, the plant manager, to kitchen duty in front of Tony and Pepper. Stealing Tony's latest Micro-Power Cell Whiplash challenges Iron Man to recover it. When he does Whiplash takes the upper hand by destroying Iron Man's weapons one by one. Using his Magnetic Disks Iron Man steals Whiplash's whip. Defeated Whiplash engages one last ploy and escapes. In the epilogue Vicki breaks the engagement due to Mark realizing incompatibility.
