The issue was written by Archie Goodwin — widely regarded as one of the finest writer-editors of his generation — with pencils by George Tuska and inking by Johnny Craig, the same core creative team that carried the title through most of its first two years as a solo series. Stan Lee served as editor. The story, titled 'Said the Unicorn to the Ghost…!', is the first chapter of a two-part tale and was released with a cover date of July 1969. A printing anomaly produced two cover variants distinguishable by the color of the logo bar in the upper-left corner: a yellow-bar version (the result of a missing cyan pass on the printing plate) and a corrected green-bar version; the UK edition, printed with a one-shilling cover price, also carries the green bar. No unusual editorial or production circumstances beyond that color error have been documented.
