“Split Decisions 4 of 6: Blue Moon”

Part four of the "Split Decisions" arc finds the Hulk in a deeply unsettling situation, as Mike Deodato Jr.'s cover depicts the jade giant's massive green form swarming with dozens of lizards — crawling over his body, clinging to his torso, and climbing upward toward his wide-open, roaring mouth. The composition is striking in its tight, low-angle framing, filling the left side of the image with this writhing, reptilian mass while the stark white background amplifies the sheer strangeness of the scene. Bruce Jones and Deodato Jr. were clearly pushing the book into eerie, visceral territory with this six-part story, and this cover makes a compelling case for diving in.
