Immortal Hulk #36

Issue #36 of Al Ewing and Joe Bennett's celebrated run presents a cover by Alex Ross that is genuinely difficult to look away from: a battered, bleeding Hulk towers under a lightning-split sky, dark ichor streaking across his massive frame as a mysterious armored figure lurks small but menacing in the lower corner. The low-angle perspective makes the Hulk feel genuinely colossal and unstoppable, yet the wounds covering him suggest something has actually pushed him to his limits. Matt Milla's color work on Ross's painted linework gives the whole image a brooding, storm-soaked atmosphere that fits perfectly with this run's horror-inflected tone.
