Hulk: Blood Hunt #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeHulk: Blood Hunt #1 is a self-contained tie-in one-shot that deepens one of Phillip Kennedy Johnson's most significant contributions to Hulk mythology: the ongoing effort to save Charlie Tidwell's soul after her transformation into the skinwalker host Lycana. The issue slots into the larger Blood Hunt crossover — Marvel's summer 2024 vampire-apocalypse event — and uses that event's Darkforce-blotted sky and subterranean vampire threat to put a distinctly Hulk-flavored, monster-horror spin on the proceedings, setting it apart from the event's more Avengers-centric main narrative. By showing Banner and Hulk operating as two distinct voices working toward the same goal of protecting Charlie, the issue underscores the thematic core of Johnson's entire Incredible Hulk run: the fractured, often adversarial relationship between Bruce Banner and the creature he becomes. As one of the tie-in one-shots that expanded the Blood Hunt event beyond its five-issue core, it represents how Johnson wove ongoing character arcs from his main series directly into Marvel's biggest 2024 event.

The issue was written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, the same writer steering the main Incredible Hulk ongoing series he launched in 2023, and drawn by Danny Earls, who had already been serving as a fill-in artist on that same ongoing title. It was edited by Jordan D. White with C.B. Cebulski as Editor-in-Chief, and was published on July 10, 2024, with a cover-dated September 2024 issue. The Blood Hunt event itself was teased at New York Comic Con in October 2023 and debuted in May 2024 as a five-issue series by Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz, with the Hulk one-shot arriving near the event's conclusion as part of a wider network of tie-in limited series, one-shots, and ongoing-series issues.
