Howard the Duck #9

Howard the Duck sliding helplessly down a rope while a massive, snarling beaver looms over him with bared fangs and outstretched claws — all set against the mist of Niagara Falls — captures everything wonderfully absurd about Marvel's 1977 series. Gene Colan and Steve Leialoha bring real menace to the oversized creature, making Howard's wide-eyed panic genuinely funny by contrast. If you've ever wanted to see a duck in a polka-dot bow tie face down one of nature's most industrious animals at the edge of a waterfall, this is unquestionably your issue.
