Howard the Duck #29

Few Marvel covers capture the absurdist spirit of late-'70s comics quite like this one — a giant paste-up brush slaps a dripping "Duck-Itis Poster Child 1978" placard against a brick wall, Howard himself staring out from it with wide-eyed indignation beneath the slogan "Help Stamp Out Ducks!" The cover art by Gene Colan (pencils) and Terry Austin (inks) delivers that perfect blend of paranoid comedy and sharp draftsmanship that made this series unlike anything else on the stands. With Mark Evanier and Steve Gerber sharing writing duties alongside interior art from Will Meugniot, issue #29 promises another gleefully sardonic chapter in the life of the duck "trapped in a world he never made.
