House of Secrets #4

This fourth chapter of "Foundation" arrives in January 1997 with one of the more quietly unsettling covers Vertigo put out that month — Teddy Kristiansen fills the frame with a close-up of a wide-eyed, tearful woman, her pale blue gaze and disheveled hair radiating raw dread against a spare, painterly background. Kristiansen's expressive, watercolor-inflected line work gives the image an almost dreamlike unease that fits the mature-readers tone of DC's Vertigo line perfectly. Steven Seagle and Kristiansen's collaboration on House of Secrets was clearly building something atmospheric and deeply felt by this point in the arc.
