“Snapper Carr Super-Traitor!”

The cover by Rags Morales sets up a delicious Silver Age-flavored mystery: the Joker drapes a conspiratorial arm around a nervous-looking Snapper Carr while the fallen bodies of Justice League heavy-hitters — Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Black Canary, and Batman — are strewn across the foreground. The tagline "The Sinister Secret of Snapper Carr: Super-Traitor!" promises the kind of backstabbing drama that makes JLA history genuinely complicated. Writer Tom Peyer clearly has a lot of fun mining DC's past, and this 2000 issue makes a compelling case that sidekicks can be every bit as dangerous as the villains they stand beside.
