Originally published by Oni Press between 2000 and 2010, it gathers the first story arcs of the series, showcasing the blend of humor, drama, and DIY ethos that defined the title.
In "Book 1, Chapter 1," two punk rock musicians vanish without a trace, leaving their children to take matters into their own hands. With no one else to turn to, the siblings set out to find their missing brother, hoping his help can unravel the mystery behind their parents’ disappearance.
In "Ground Zero, Chapter 1," Jo struggles with the usual chaos of high school—until her unrequited crush makes things even more complicated. The only boy she’s ever wanted is the one who’s loved her since the first grade, but he’s terrified of getting close, knowing how she’s always left a trail of heartbreak in her wake.
In "Too Much Hopeless Savages, Chapter 1," Gran’s faith in Reverend Tommy leads her to denounce her family’s punk legacy, while Arsenal, Twitch, Claude, and Henry journey to Hong Kong for a long-awaited showdown with her old enemy, Angus Brentwood. At the airport, a mysterious object is slipped into Arsenal’s bag—unseen, unknown—adding tension to their already fraught trip. When Claude and Henry introduce the group to their Great-Grandmother, her cryptic warning about a dark fate if they remain together sends a chill through the team.
In "Too Much Hopeless Savages, Chapter 2," the Hopeless-Savage clan arrives in Hong Kong on a mission to reunite Gran with Arsenal and Twitch, while also pulling her away from Reverend Tommy’s influence. As tensions rise, Arsenal finds a mysterious package in her bag and begins unraveling who’s behind the escalating threats—some of whom are tied to British Intelligence. Meanwhile, Rat uses charm and wit to quietly probe one of the agents shadowing them, turning the hunt into a game of shadows and secrets.
In "Too Much Hopeless Savages, Chapter 3," Arsenal finds herself cornered when thieves target her, hunting for a hidden item in her luggage. With Zero and Gran threatened, she fights back just enough to hand the last intruder over to Angus—only for the man to stab Angus in cold blood, framing Arsenal before the police arrive. Left with no choice, she vanishes into the bathroom as the situation spirals, leaving Twitch, Zero, and Gran unaware and the truth buried in silence.
In "Too Much Hopeless Savages, Chapter 4," Arsenal is cornered by a ruthless gang who demand she deliver a mysterious puzzle box to save her boyfriend, Claude, held captive. With the law closing in and her family’s past looming, she must navigate a web of betrayal and danger to reach him before time runs out.
