“Fresh Meat Part 3”

Tommy Monaghan looks to be having a very bad day — on John McCrea's cover for Hitman #46, DC's sharp-tongued Gotham hitman is backed into a corner, pistol raised, as a massive red-eyed dinosaur lunges at him with jaws wide open, drool flying. A second glowing-eyed theropod looms in the murky purple background alongside a winged creature circling overhead, making "Fresh Meat Part 3" feel like a title that earns every word. Garth Ennis and McCrea's irreverent series keeps finding gloriously absurd ways to put its protagonist in impossible situations, and prehistoric predators are a new high-water mark.
