Invisible elves have been harrasing Hilda and her mom, trying to evict them from the valley. Hilda befriends one, and then meets with the local mayor, then prime minister, trying to reconcile, but encounters bureaucratic resistance and must find the king. Meanwhile, she encounters an ancient giant, Jørgen, who appears at midnight several nights running waiting for a friend who doesn't appear to be coming. Hilda accidentally triggers the revelation of Jørgen's friend while attempting to meet the king. She reunites Jørgen and his friend and befriends the king, making peace with the elves.
