High Level #4

DC's Vertigo imprint delivers "Chapter 4: Pleasure Island" of this post-apocalyptic series, with a cover by Barnaby Bagenda that places a green-haired young woman at the center of an eerie, otherworldly landscape — a massive gnarled tree at her back, and a ring of menacing silhouetted figures closing in around her from all sides. The tension in her posture and the unsettling glow of those surrounding figures make the threat feel genuinely palpable. Nerdist called High Level "everything a great science fiction story should be," and this 2019 issue — crafted by Rob Sheridan, Barnaby Bagenda, Amancay Nahuelpan, and colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. — looks every bit worthy of that praise.
