Jonah Hex — the scarred gunfighter of the Old West — has been hurled into a grim post-apocalyptic future, and issue #3 of DC's 1985 series finds him in serious trouble. The cover by Denys Cowan and Klaus Janson puts Hex at the center of a burning wasteland, pistol in hand and reeling backward as a mob of shambling figures closes in from all sides — with looming, gas-masked soldiers rising ominously through the flames behind them. That tagline, "They Feel No Pain!", paired with the story title "The Lotus Eaters!", promises something unsettling about this particular crowd, making this a compelling chapter in one of DC's more daring genre experiments of the decade.
