“Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?”

DC's post-apocalyptic western takes a wild turn in Hex #2 (1985), and this cover by Mark Texeira and Klaus Janson makes a bold case for the series right away. A grim-faced, blond gunfighter — pistol raised — fights for his life against a pair of sleek, armored creatures with snapping, fang-lined jaws, while armed soldiers close in from the rubble-strewn background. The tagline says it all: "Their nuclear-ravaged world needed a hero — what it got was…" and that tension crackles through every inch of the image.
