The issue brings the Hell Hulk story arc to its climactic conclusion, pitting Akihiro, Mephisto, and Project Hellfire against a fully awakened Hell Hulk — a newly introduced demon whose debut earlier in the run (issue #6) represented Percy and artist Raffaele Ienco's deliberate effort to expand the infernal corner of the Marvel Universe with fresh mythology. As the series' final chapter, it closes the book on Akihiro's journey from amnesiac resurrected corpse to a character who fully accepts his Hellverine identity — a significant moment for Daken/Akihiro, a character who had been largely sidelined after his death in the Sabretooth War storyline. Collected in the trade paperback Hellverine Vol. 2: Hell Hulk Unleashed (January 2026), the issue is also notable as a creative endpoint that at least one critic described as 'frustratingly rushed,' suggesting the series may have been cut short before its full potential was realized.

The Hellverine ongoing series was announced in August 2024, following a fan response that Percy himself compared to the breakout trajectory of Cosmic Ghost Rider — reader enthusiasm had driven Marvel to first greenlight a four-issue mini-series (with artist Julius Ohta), and then, after that sold well, to commission this ongoing with artist Raffaele Ienco. Issue #10 was edited by Mark Basso under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, with colors by Bryan Valenza and letters by Travis Lanham; the cover was painted by Kendrick 'Kunkka' Lim, the same cover artist who handled the ongoing's full run. The Hell Hulk arc that culminates in #10 was formally teased by Marvel in February 2025 with the announcement of issue #6, where Percy described Project Hellfire as 'a shadow program dedicated to studying and developing the science and technology of Hell,' indicating the arc was planned well in advance as the second major storyline of the ongoing.
