Hellspawn #3

Ashley Wood's cover for Hellspawn #3 is all atmosphere — a dark, spectral figure with massive, jagged wings looms against a pale, ghostly background, chains trailing at the edges like remnants of something barely contained. The painterly, blurred rendering gives Spawn a genuinely unsettling presence, more shadow than flesh, as if he's barely tethered to this plane of existence. With Brian Michael Bendis scripting and Wood handling art duties throughout, this 2000 Image series was clearly committed to pushing the character into darker, moodier territory.
