Hellshock #2

Jae Lee's Hellshock continues with this striking second issue from Image's 1994 lineup, and the cover alone signals the series' brooding spiritual intensity — a blood-red cross looms against a pitch-black background while a rosary, spattered with crimson, coils around it like a question posed between faith and darkness. Flames lick the right side of the composition, reinforcing the tension between the sacred and the infernal that defines the series' atmosphere. Lee handles both the pencils and inks here, and the result is a moody, painterly image that draws you in before you've even cracked the spine.
