Allan tries repeatedly to ask "Sourpuss Sue", manager of the secretaries, to go out with him, but she doesn't believe he means it and says no. But when Mike unexpectedly asks her out, she says yes. Feeling she has found love, she softens and the girls take advantage of her happiness to ask for an office party to farewell Doris, contrary to company policy. It soon becomes clear the whole thing was a trick to get Sue's agreement to the party. When Allan comes to her defense, Sue realises he is serious about her.
