“Like a Bolt from the Blue!”

The cover of this September 1987 issue says it all — "Bolt Explodes!" — as the lightning-bolt-suited villain Bolt dominates the center of the composition, surging forward amid swirling green energy tendrils while Hawkman recoils to his left and Hawkwoman braces herself to his right, both clearly caught in the chaos. Cover pencils by Richard Howell and inks by Kim DeMulder give the scene a kinetic, mid-action energy that makes the threat feel immediate and urgent. With Mishkin scripting and Howell on interior art, this is a solid entry in DC's late-'80s run with the Winged Wonders.
