The painted expressionism of Jon J. Muth's cover art was already turning heads in 1989, and this third installment of Meltdown shows exactly why. Wolverine lunges forward out of a deep crimson haze, claws extended on both hands in a raw, visceral display of feral intensity rendered in Muth's distinctive painterly style. With Walter and Louise Simonson steering the story into a chapter titled "Duel," this Epic Comics prestige-format series remains one of the more striking X-Men-adjacent ventures of its era.
