About this Collection

Harley Quinn #1 (Panini Deutschland, 2024) marks the German-language debut of writer Tini Howard and artist Sweeney Boo's tenure on DC's flagship Harley Quinn ongoing series, which began with the Dawn of DC publishing initiative. This volume collects the creative-team handover from Stephanie Phillips (who helmed the book through its Infinite Frontier era, issues #1–27) to Howard, whose first arc immediately shifts Harley away from Bat-Family street-level crime-fighting into a wilder, multiverse-spanning register. For German-speaking readers, it served as both the entry point to that tonal shift and as Panini's fresh series-launch format for a new chapter in the character's history.

History

The source material — Harley Quinn (Vol. 4) #28–31, originally published by DC Comics in 2023 — was produced by writer Tini Howard and primary artist Sweeney Boo, who took custody of the book as part of DC's Dawn of DC initiative after Stephanie Phillips concluded her run with issue #27. The series itself had launched in March 2021 under Phillips and artist Riley Rossmo as part of DC's Infinite Frontier line, following on from Harley's role in the 'Joker War' Batman storyline. Panini Deutschland collected issues #28–31 into this 144-page trade paperback (17×26 cm, perfect-bound) and released it on June 4, 2024, simultaneously offering a standard edition, a special edition bundled with an exclusive acrylic figure, and a print-run-limited variant cover.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Collects US issues Harley Quinn (Vol. 4, 2021) #28–31, the first four issues of writer Tini Howard and artist Sweeney Boo's Dawn of DC run on the series.
  • Marks the creative-team transition on the ongoing series: Stephanie Phillips and Riley Rossmo launched the volume in 2021; Tini Howard took over scripting from issue #28 onward as part of the Dawn of DC publishing initiative.
  • The central plot of the collected issues involves Harley — with Poison Ivy absent — entangling herself with Two-Face, subsequently being threatened by Lady Quark (an extradimensional ruler) with Earth's destruction over Harley's unintentional multiversal boundary violations.
  • In the course of the arc, Harley consults Zatanna for magical assistance with her multiversal problems; Khalid Nassour (the then-current Doctor Fate) is present at Zatanna's office, and John Constantine also appears in connection with Zatanna.
  • Batman appears in a key one-on-one scene with Harley in which he helps her work through what personal sacrifice she must make to complete Zatanna's interdimensional protection spell.
  • The collected issues introduced recurring backup stories — a format that continued through issue #43 — in which various creative teams placed Harley in surreal, often franchise-parodying dream-like scenarios; the backup in #29 was written and drawn by Adam Warren, featuring Harley's hyenas Bud and Lou as speaking characters.
  • Published by Panini Deutschland on June 4, 2024, in a 144-page, full-color, perfect-bound paperback format (17×26 cm), labeled as a series debut ('Serienstart') and marketed as beginner-friendly.
  • A variant edition limited to 200 copies was produced exclusively for the German direct market alongside the standard edition and the acrylic-figure bundle edition.
