When Hap's father offers him five bucks to keep his troublemaking Uncle Ben Blowhard away from the house during an important business dinner, the teenager accepts—only to discover that steering clear of home is far easier said than done. As Hap chases his uncle from one location to the next, Ben's well-meaning chaos follows in his wake, leaving a trail of mishaps at a friend's house, a party, and even a run-in with the local cop. Hap's got his eye on a girl named Babs, and when he spots a photo contest offering a free night at the Club Palm as the prize, he sees the perfect way to impress her—by entering Babs's picture. Now Hap has to juggle two dates on the same night at the same restaurant, and keeping them apart becomes a hilariously exhausting balancing act.

When a teen named Hap tries to win back the favor of his friend Babs's father after botching a radio repair, a simple errand for cigarettes spirals into a comedy of errors that lands him in hot water with the police, gets Babs's dad arrested by mistake, and puts both of them in mortal danger. By the time the misunderstanding is finally cleared up, Hap's legendary bad luck strikes one last time in the most inconvenient place imaginable—a hospital room where nobody wants to see him.
