This 2017 Gwandanaland Comics collection brings together early issues of Charlton's Unusual Tales under one handy volume, opening with a cover penciled by Bill Molno and inked by Vince Alascia that perfectly captures the series' offbeat charm. On that reproduced cover, a massive green serpentine creature looms over a city rooftop patio where a casually seated woman reassures a startled standing man — "Don't be alarmed, they're just a couple of pets we keep down in our backyard!" — with a second enormous beast visible in the urban skyline behind them. It's a wonderfully deadpan slice of mid-century science-fiction whimsy, and having these "extraordinary stories never before told" gathered together makes this a genuinely satisfying read for fans of vintage Charlton anthology comics.
