“Split Decision”

Issue three of Marvel's 1990 Guardians of the Galaxy series drops readers straight into a brutal brawl set in the Marvel Universe of the 31st Century. The cover, penciled by Jim Valentino and inked by Mike Manley, puts a powerful blue-suited figure center stage, grappling hard with a gold-armored enemy while two more gold-armored warriors close in from the left — all set against a scorched, rocky battlefield where additional combatants clash in the background and a blue-costumed figure streaks through the sky trailing energy beams. That bold accusation — "COWARD!" — splashed across the top sets an intense, charged tone that promises the story inside, "Split Decision," is anything but a routine skirmish.
