Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano's Grim reaches its twentieth issue with a cover that balances dark romance against genuine dread — a pale woman in a red dress shares a tender kiss with a suited figure on an ornate seat, while a hooded reaper looms behind them, scythe raised, and skeletal creatures flank the pair on either side. Flaviano's art does beautiful, unsettling work here, using that deep crimson wash to tie the lovers' intimacy to the death-soaked world surrounding them. If you've been following this BOOM! Studios series, issue #20 looks like a compelling moment where vulnerability and menace share exactly the same breath.
