Green Lanterns #2
This volume collects Green Lanterns #7-14, continuing the Rebirth era adventures of rookie Lanterns Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. The story introduces the Phantom Lantern, a mysterious new wielder of a unique power ring that threatens to disrupt the fragile balance the two heroes are building as partners. Writer Sam Humphries and artist Robson Rocha pit the duo against an enemy that preys on their deepest fears and insecurities.
In "Family Matters Part One: Kitchen Nightmares," Frank Laminski's long-held dream of becoming a Green Lantern takes a dark turn when he finally believes he's been chosen—only to see the ring go to Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz instead. As his obsession deepens, a mysterious figure named Volthoom reveals the existence of the Phantom Ring, a power source that doesn’t require selection. Written by Sam Humphries and illustrated by Robson Rocha, with inks by Jay Leisten, colors by Blond, and letters by Dave Sharpe, this issue explores the roots of Frank’s fixation through a haunting flashback, all framed by a cover by Robson Rocha and Joe Prado.

A story told in flashback detailing how Frank Laminski becomes obsessed with obtaining a power ring after being rescued by Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Over the years, Frank tries to prove himself worthy of being selected for a power ring, but is frustrated to watch as John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner all are chosen over him. Ultimately he believes that he has succeeded in being chosen, but instead a ring goes to Simon Baz, and another to Jessica Cruz. Then Volthoom appears to Frank, and tells him of the Phantom Ring, which can be used by anyone without having to be chosen.
