Part of DC's sweeping 2014 "The New 52: Futures End" event, this one-shot offers a glimpse of a harder, grimmer tomorrow for the Green Lantern legacy. Billy Tan's cover art depicts a battle-worn Lantern — suit partially destroyed, ring still glowing — fighting his way out of a crushing mass of monstrous, grasping creatures with fierce, raw determination. It's a striking, kinetic image that sets an appropriately desperate tone for Robert Venditti's story "The Next Life," brought to life on the interior by artists Aaron Lopresti and Martín Cóccolo with colors by Alex Sinclair.
