“Sins of the Star Sapphire, Part Four: Hearts and Minds”

Part of DC's 2009 "Faces of Evil" event and the "Sins of the Star Sapphire" storyline, this issue puts the monstrous Kryb front and center in genuinely unsettling fashion. Patrick Gleason and Rebecca Buchman's cover renders the creature in horrifying detail — her vast, cage-like back grotesquely packed with the infants she has stolen, while her multi-limbed, insectoid body looms over the viewer with clawed arms outstretched. It's a striking piece of horror-tinged cosmic comics that makes clear Peter J. Tomasi and the creative team aren't pulling any punches this arc.
