The series had a notable pre-publication shuffle: DC's November 2022 Dawn of DC announcement originally named Mariko Tamaki as the writer of a title called Green Lantern: Hal Jordan, but within weeks the publisher announced a creative-team change, with Jeremy Adams and Xermanico — who had just collaborated on Flashpoint Beyond — taking over a retitled book simply called Green Lantern, debuting May 9, 2023. Adams was not a stranger to the character, having written two episodes of Green Lantern: The Animated Series, a background that would prove creatively significant as the run progressed. Plans for two separate Hal Jordan and John Stewart ongoings were also consolidated into a single title with a backup feature, a structural decision that some retailers and fans noted felt like a late editorial pivot, though it ultimately served to launch the John Stewart: War Journal spinoff organically from within the same comic.
