“Into the Woods”

Part of DC's 2010 Brightest Day event, this issue puts Green Arrow and guest star Green Lantern in a tense spot — both heroes are backed against a massive tree, marked with red targeting dots and surrounded by a ring of aimed firearms closing in from every angle. The glowing white Brightest Day symbol etched into the bark behind them adds an eerie, otherworldly charge to the standoff. Mauro Cascioli's painted cover work gives the whole scene a moody, grounded weight that makes "Into the Woods" feel like anything but a walk in the park.
