Peter Milligan and Davide Gianfelice's Vertigo series continues with this 2009 issue, whose cover by Kako announces the collision of ancient myth and gritty modern London with striking immediacy — a young man screams in raw anguish while a dark, masked figure looms behind him and a coiled serpent rears up in the foreground, fangs bared. The imagery carries the weight of Greek tragedy transposed into contemporary chaos, exactly the "mind-bending mash-up of ancient myth and modern mayhem" the cover itself promises. "Blood Calls for Blood" rolls on, and this second chapter looks set to deepen whatever desperate crossroads its characters have stumbled into.
