Studios' quietly compelling series, as two women share an easy moment seated on the hood of a rusted truck amid a yard of old vehicles, laundry drying on a line behind them. The unhurried intimacy of the scene — one woman relaxed and talking, the other absorbed in something in her hands — captures the lived-in, off-the-grid atmosphere that makes Grass Kings so distinctive. Hilary Jenkins' muted watercolor palette ties it all together beautifully, making this 2017 issue a strong showcase for what the creative team does best.
