“Book 5: Pieces of the Puzzle”

The fifth chapter of this nine-part DC series puts Robin front and center, leaping through a moonlit Gotham sky as he grapples with an unseen adversary at the top of the frame — the tension in his grip and the Bat-signal looming behind him doing plenty of heavy lifting. Below him, a grim gathering of figures including what appears to be Nightwing, a cloaked woman, and a hulking creature crowd the rooftops, hinting at the sprawling underworld coalition at the heart of "Pieces of the Puzzle." Jim Calafiore's cover linework is sharp and dynamic, and with Frank Tieri scripting this sprawling nine-issue miniseries, issue five feels like exactly the right moment for things to get complicated.
