“Big Screen Betty!”

"Big Screen Betty!" delivers a delightfully playful wartime caper from the Good Girl Art Quarterly series, spotlighting Ginger in a charmingly absurd moment of wartime confusion. When a Japanese plane drops American newspapers with outlandish headlines, Ginger takes them at face value—leading her to believe fighter squadrons are about to launch in retaliation. Her energetic panic leads her straight into the commanding officer, knocking her dazed, and sending her into a dreamy, heroic fantasy. Matt Baker’s dynamic art brings the moment to life with his signature flair, while Mark Heike’s cover captures the scene’s playful tension.

A Japanese plane drops American newspapers with fake headlines as propaganda. Ginger picks up one and believes it so she goes running to her friends that go along with the gag and tell her that the fighter squadrons are about to leave in retaliation. She is so excited that she runs into the commanding officer in the doorway. She is knocked loopy and tries to help the squadron in her dreams.
