In this stark, black-and-white noir tale, con man David Gold—known as Goldfish—returns to a city he hasn’t seen in a decade, where the underworld now answers to his former lover, crime boss Lauren Bacall. Set largely within the shadowy confines of her nightclub, Club Cinderella—a place that doubles as a brothel and casino—Goldfish must navigate a web of old debts and dangerous alliances to reclaim his son. Written and illustrated by Brian Michael Bendis, with inks and letters by the same, the issue’s cover by Bendis captures the story’s brooding, high-stakes atmosphere.
