Nan and Chris are reporters on a small-town newspaper when they cover a beauty pageant and Chris is enthralled by Monica, the winner. Believing that Monica will be a big star before long, Chris convinces his editor to assign him to cover her rise to fame. Nan is heartbroken when Chris follows Monica to Hollywood and writes several stories over the next few months, as she believes that he has fallen in love with the subject of his assignment.
