A young boy's curiosity about the incomplete nursery rhyme of Simple Simon leads to a surprise midnight visit from the character himself, who offers to show him what really happened after the pieman turned him away. Simple Simon takes the boy on a wild tour through the department store's display windows, revealing how he managed to find food and encounter other Mother Goose characters despite his complete lack of pennies or common sense. It's a playful journey through the world of nursery rhymes that answers the question that kept the boy awake: what becomes of someone heading to a fair with no money at all?
