Ghosts #19

DC's Ghosts #19 (October 1973) delivers another round of the publisher's signature supernatural anthology, promising "True Tales of the Weird and Supernatural" to anyone brave enough to accept the challenge. Nick Cardy's cover is a genuinely unsettling piece of work: a desperate man and a terrified woman ride a wooden raft through churning, flame-laced waters beneath a full moon, while beneath them a skeletal, red-robed specter stretches its bony arms upward from the dark depths. Teased stories — "The Body in Mystic Lake," "Spectre in the Bog," and "Phantom Pick-Up" — round out an issue that also features interior art by Alfredo Alcala, whose atmospheric inking is perfectly suited to tales this eerie.
