Peter Venkman cuts a striking figure on Kyriazis's cover — decked out in a wide-brimmed hat and sheriff's star, gripping a proton pack weapon with a knowing smirk while chaos erupts below as the rest of the Ghostbusters battle swarms of supernatural foes amid flames and crackling energy. It's a wonderfully offbeat image that signals something has gone very sideways for New York's favorite paranormal team. With Scott Lobdell writing and Ilias Kyriazis handling the full art duties, this 2009 IDW miniseries launches with plenty of style to spare.

The Ghostbusters face defeat at the hands of the pan-dimensional demon lord, Kozar'Rai— father of Gozer. Consequently, they are dispersed across different timelines. Dr. Peter Venkman finds himself ensnared in the year 1886. His sole avenue to revert to the contemporary world and liberate humanity from Kozar'Rai's dominance involves allying with a rather surprising and striking partner.
