Dell's long-running anthology of the uncanny delivers another round of supernatural chills with this January 1973 issue, promising "Incredible Tales of the Supernatural!" Jack Sparling's cover sets an immediately unsettling tone: a flashlight-wielding figure in a hat recoils before a massive, luminous skull face looming out of the darkness, while a bandaged, mummy-like figure lurks menacingly to the left. It's a wonderfully atmospheric composition that captures exactly what this series does best — that creeping dread just before the supernatural makes itself undeniably real.
