Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears #3

Clayton Crain's painted cover for issue three of this six-part limited series is genuinely arresting — a hooded, skull-faced Ghost Rider astride a skeletal, flame-engulfed horse charges straight at the viewer, chains trailing through a storm of fire and ash. The atmosphere is relentlessly dark and apocalyptic, perfectly suited to Garth Ennis's historically grounded take on the Spirit of Vengeance. Midway through the series, the tension is palpable, and Crain's work here makes a powerful case for why this collaboration earned its reputation.
