Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears #2

The second chapter of Garth Ennis and Clayton Crain's six-part limited series sets a brooding, atmospheric tone right on its cover: a weathered man gripping a rifle gazes upward with grim determination, while behind him looms a dark, spectral horse and the shadowy, hooded presence of the Ghost Rider, chains trailing at the edges of the frame. Crain's painterly artwork renders every figure in deep blues and smoky blacks, giving the whole image a haunting, elegiac weight that suits the "Trail of Tears" setting perfectly. This 2007 Marvel series continues to look like one of the more distinctive takes on the Spirit of Vengeance, and issue two's cover makes a compelling case for the ride ahead.
